Imagine you are surrounded by trees and nature’s choir. What are your thoughts? What happens to us when we stop, look and become still? Here are my poetic thoughts.
I must become still…very still to listen
hear the quiet world within the lush
evergreen forest, attentive like a
welcome witness to peeking mountain
ridges and tall, green, quiet trees
stretching their arms like tents:
strong douglas firs, limp pines
dying cedar, skinny maples
pyramidal hemlocks… each
host to a glistening autumn
day’s song of sun and silence—I
must let my thoughts become
placid yet poised like the family
of blacktail deer who spot my
presence without pausing to
acknowledge my worth.
