Fall Time: Listening to Trees

Oh listening tree,

where are your children from your

aged womb of trunks, tracks and

treasures…who will wear your crown

of glory from what you have

birthed and learned?

I wonder my listening one,

did you learn acceptance from your

leaves changing color as I did in

having strands blend from black

to gray to glistening silver in the sun

or did you consider tinting (what

man calls) your undesirables

to remain the same year round?

Like you, my listening friend

ancestry was once spread vast

wide with deep roots from the

south of Mississippi to the

northern shores of Lake Michigan

but now my branches are few

sparsely connected….  many have

died a death of time and chance,

a broken, lonely heart or merely

faltered in mind and body…yet

I am here, I am here now

I am here now to learn

I am here now to learn to value

the gift of legacy and that

which time cannot buy.

The Sweet Scent of Summer: A Tribute to Nature’s Wonders

How funny our air is sweetly scented with gardenias, lilies and roses

While living among us we often observe people turning up their noses

How funny we are calmly awakened by sounds of morning birds

While other folks are shaken amidst by rage and hurtful words

How funny we enjoy the ease and pleasure of an afternoon summertime day

When there are those who have no hope and cannot find their way

How funny the path of cherry blossoms blooming blissfully in the wind

Can we stretch forth our hand…share our love to a hurting one or friend?

How funny to see…rose petals to be…in brightly colored hues

But all we hear…and all we know is confusion in our news

So as we greet this summertime journey, embracing much warmer days

I hope our hearts feel every part with gratitude and grace-filled praise.

Begin With Self-Compassion

I will look within…

Yes. I will go within. Where my best self lives where

my haven of affirmation lies nestled among lush waters and

breezy palm trees that sag with abundance from date-filled

sweetness. High above the grandness of canyons and

shadows of red rock mountain vistas where evening

nights wrap my worries in warm pashminas and

luscious tea that glistens in the backdrop of

dazzling desert colors.
