Glendal’s latest collection of poetry, Jewels of Fillmore, captures moving themes of love, family, society, memories and much more. What are jewels? Jewels are memories. Memories of children. Memories of elders. Memories of fathers who worked swingshift in dust ridden steelmills. Mothers who served all day as maids while children jumped rope and grew up fast. Jewels are little girls who go from sweet lips to wide hips to kissing and rolling with boys in dark, narrow gangways. Jewels are little boys who become grown men–hustling and roaming city streets…streets that become ghost towns when dust ridden steelmills leave. These are the jewels, “The Jewels of Fillmore.”
